Athletes to watch
The big news heading into Prague is that this will be the farewell bouldering appearance for legendary Czechia climber Adam Ondra. The 32-year-old, the only male athlete to have won world championship titles in both Boulder and lead disciplines in the same year, announced the news back in April.
“In terms of longevity, it’s better for me to avoid those moves rather than push my body into extreme positions,” Ondra explained. Organisers have planned a fitting send-off for the five-time world champion, with the entire event carrying the slogan #lastboulderdance, a phrase that will also feature on the official merchandise and no doubt be worn by the hundreds of fans who will come out to support their national hero.
