Classic and contemporary cars will line up and down Route 66 this weekend, June 7
GRANTS, N.M. — Chrome will shine and engines will roar this weekend as Spokes on 66, high-energy car show hosted by Grants Main-Street Project Inc. in partnership with the City of Grants, returns for its second year.
Taking over historic Route 66 in Downtown Grants on Saturday, June 7, this car show promises a full day of classic cars, live music, food vendors, raffles, family fun—and this year, something even bigger: a dedicated tourism website designed to put Grants on the map.
The new site, Visit-Grants.com, officially launched this week, offering visitors a mobilefriendly hub for planning trips to the region. It features outdoor recreation guides, event calendars, dining and lodging recommendations, and an overview of the area’s unique attractions.
“Grants is a hidden gem along Route 66, and VisitGrants.com gives us a powerful tool to share our story locally, nationally, and internationally,” said Denise Hanson, Director of Marketing for the City of Grants.
The Spokes on 66 Car Show is an event growing in popularity. The City of Grants and Grants Main-Street Project Inc. sees Route 66 as not only a regional draw, but a culturally significant icon.
This year’s event will support the celebration of Route 66’s upcoming 100-year anniversary in 2026 – next year. The event is one of the few car shows in New Mexico to receive formal approval from the state Department of Transportation to take place directly on the iconic Mother Road.
That’s right – classic and Contemporary cars will be on display up and down Route 66 this weekend. On the road.
Show & Shine Schedule
Held at Riverwalk Park, the day kicks off with car registration from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. public showcase of vehicles. At 5:00 p.m., a parade will cruise down Santa Fe Avenue—Route 66 itself—closing the show with a bang.
Attendees can expect hourly trivia raffles, giveaways, a 50/50 raffle supporting the Grants High School FFA, and multiple prize presentations, including an exclusive swag bag and event T-shirt for all car registrants. A downloadable mobile app will provide real-time updates throughout the day.
“We want everyone— car owners, families, outof- town visitors—to feel welcome and part of something special,” organizers said in a press release. “And don’t worry if you don’t have a car to show—there’s still plenty to enjoy.”
Food, Music, and Family Fun
Live music will be performed throughout the day at Fire & Ice Park, with acts covering Spanish, country, oldies, and rock. Admission is free.
Dozens of food trucks and merchandise vendors will line the park, and there’s fun for all ages with bounce houses, obstacle courses, and interactive games.
Don’t forget to bring your rod! Cibola’s anglers can enjoy the event and free fishing this weekend.
The celebration will begin the night before, on June 6, with a VIP Sponsor Dinner, featuring special guest Horny Mike from Counting Cars, who will sign autographs and pose for photos. He’ll be back on Saturday at the car show with his signature custom ride.
A Look Ahead to 2026
Spokes on 66 is already gaining momentum ahead of the Route 66 Centennial, and organizers say 2025’s show is key to building long-term recognition of Grants as a premier stop along the historic highway.
The event is supported by the New Mexico Tourism Department through its Route 66 Centennial Grant Program. Visitors can explore more about this and other destinations at NewMexico.org.
