KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Kids in Sevierville are learning all about what it’s like to be a police officer this week.
The Sevierville Police Department Kids Camp is underway.
Tuesday, they headed back to school, but not for the books. They learned how police would search a building looking for dangers.
The kids even got a chance to run through those scenarios that would stop an intruder.
They also got to build skills on the importance of looking out for your partner.

“Well, I think anytime you have community service with the community to show them what we do and why we do it and we’re here for them, it just benefits everybody involved. It kind of gives them some insight into what it might be like to be a police officer,” said Shain Burgess with SPD. “It teaches communication, and it’s like that in police work, just like it’s like that in all walks of life. I think it’s important for building searches in general because of the safety of everybody involved.”
The kids camp is now underway, and officers said it will culminate on Friday with one big scenario that connects the entire week together. A graduation ceremony will then follow to celebrate what they’ve learned.
