MARLBOROUGH – On a dry and breezy first Sunday in June, nearly 450 antique and classic vehicles came to town for the annual show sponsored by the United Brethren Lodge of Freemasons.
Main Street, and many of downtown’s side streets, served as showplaces for cars ranging from a 1915 Pierce Arrow to a 1983 Excalibur Series IV Phaeton, which was custom-built for actress Joanne Woodward.
Automobile aficionados could find makes and models of their favorites, including Mustangs and Corvettes, Chevys, Volkswagens, Plymouths, and Pontiacs. Along the way, they could also purchase model cars and other accessories.
According to Alan Archibald, one of the show’s volunteers, the event was started by his brother, Bob, about 15 years ago as a way to combine his love for antique cars and charities.
Each entrant was asked to donate $20, with proceeds to benefit the lodge’s charities, including the Marlborough Food Cupboard, Home Base, and Shriners Children’s Hospital. Alan Archibald said that since its start, the event has raised more than $400,000.
