Stamp Out Hunger: Thousands will be fed through local food bank’s latest drive

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – The Wichita Falls Area Food Bank has released the results of its Stamp Out Hunger campaign.

The food bank announced the campaign collected 38,303 pounds of food — enough to provide approximately 31,919 meals across its 12-county service area.

For Wichita Falls Area Food Bank CEO David O’Neil and everyone involved with the organization, the impact of this effort is significant, but it means even more for families in need across the region as the food helps to heal the invisible wounds caused by the uncertainty of not knowing where the next meal will come from.

“Our purpose is to nourish our neighbors. We’re so grateful for the individuals in the communities within the 12 counties. And the United States Postal Service letter carriers for every year stepping up to the plate,“ O’Neil said.

Expressing gratitude for their most recent achievement, O’Neil said this achievement wouldn’t be possible without its community partners.

He adds they’re not just feeding the community, they helping reach real goals in fighting food insecurity.

“It’s feeding, nourishing, educating neighbors about how they can prepare healthy, nutritious meals for them and their families. When we do that, the impact of that really is that it can make, it gives them an opportunity to be healthier, which can drive down medical costs, not only for individuals, but for the communities as well,” O’Neil said.

O’Neil adds that while there’s food that left to be processed, the food bank has always relied on the community and this time is no different.

He said the more volunteers willing to help, the faster they can get the food to the people that need it most.

“We want to be involved to help our communities thrive. And everybody needs food to do that. And healthy food is a cornerstone of having a thriving community,“ O’Neil said.
