SPS provides free meals to local kids in June. Here’s where, how to get breakfast, lunch

Again this year, Springfield Public Schools will provide free breakfast and lunch to children — age 18 and under — in June at select school buildings.

The meals will be available on weekdays.

Children do not have be registered for Explore, the district’s summer program, to access the meals. The children must be accompanied by an adult.

The summer meals are funded by the Summer Food Service Program, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Child and Adult Care Food Program.

As of June 2, the first day of Explore, an estimated 8,100 students are enrolled in courses offered in person or virtually.

Parents who accompany the children can also eat but have to pay for their own meal. The cost is $2.60 for breakfast and $4.60 for lunch.

The meals are available at 18 buildings used for Explore. Families are encouraged to contact the participating school to find out the exact times for breakfast and lunch.
