Mayor Mulvaney-Stanak signs resolution to give “Food not Cops” $10,000 for relocation

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Burlington’s mayor signed off on a controversial resolution that includes a plan to move the lunch distribution mutual aid group “Food Not Cops”, offering them $10,000.

That’s five times what the council approved in their resolution at the last city council meeting.

The resolution was drafted by city council democrats with the intention of easing the burden on local businesses who say they’re being harmed by downtown construction and public safety concerns.

Initially, the mayor asked the council to reconsider the item of relocating Food Not Cops from the marketplace garage, but on Monday night, she conceded that negotiations weren’t going anywhere.

“I’m signing this resolution to model compromise with the Democratic city councilors, but with concern that working toward a bipartisan compromise was ultimately not offered back to me as the Mayor of Burlington,” said Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak.

The resolution requires the mayor to provide a plan to move Food Not Cops by or on July 14th.
