CHAMPAIGN — Illinois will play at historic Madison Square Garden for a fourth straight season, with a Black Friday showdown with Connecticut scheduled, per CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.
The Nov. 28 game against the Huskies is the fourth known nonconference game on the 2025-26 schedule. The Illini will also play Alabama on Nov. 19 in Chicago, Tennessee on Dec. 6 in Nashville and Missouri in St. Louis for Braggin’ Rights on a date before Christmas still to be determined.
Illinois coach Brad Underwood has made a point of scheduling games in New York City whenever possible. The Illini played in the Jimmy V Classic twice — against Texas in 2022 and Florida Atlantic in 2023 — and got in a unique game against Duke this past February.
Next season’s game between Illinois and UConn at Madison Square Garden, of course, will be a rematch of the 2024 Elite Eight. The Huskies went on a 30-0 run, spanning halftime, and ended the Illini’s season in a 77-52 loss. UConn went on to win its second straight NCAA title that season.
