New play space becomes hub for kids and parents | On the Bright Side

YORK, Pa. — Like most kids, three-year-old Graham Beach is constantly on the move.

“He is just a very imagination driven kid who’s always looking to be into something,” said his mother, Emily Beach.

It’s designed for kids ages six and under; a niche she says was sorely missing in the York area.

“We were looking for places to take him in the area and we really couldn’t find anything for his age group that would be a safe place, a clean place and something that would foster independent play,” said Beach.

She and her husband believe they’ve created an environment where kids can explore and be engaged.

“Parents can bring their children to play in an imaginative way, and there’s also some gross motor play too, so they can get their excitement out,” said Beach.

The space is also giving parents peace of mind.

“You can see your child from anywhere in the room and you can just let their little imaginations run wild,” she said.

For many, the Beach Play House has become a community hub.

“We have a lot of people that have become members just because they love coming in here. They love to be able to just watch their children meet a friend, have a coffee together and still be able to interact with their child without being too into their play,” she said.

Among the regular visitors is Trish Smallwood and her grandchildren Cora and Lucas.

“The kids are with me all week, so it gets them out around other kids, gives them new things to play with and meet new people,” said Smallwood.  “It’s a nice place, you know, especially on rainy days or days that it’s going to be super-hot in the summer, get the kids out of the other kids and just go somewhere different,” she continued.
