Miley Cyrus gets candid about her stance on having kids

Miley Cyrus shared her reasoning on if she was interested in becoming a parent, and fans loved her answer.

Cyrus, 32, said she wasn’t focused on having kids right now on the May 31 episode of “The Interview” podcast from The New York Times.

“It’s not something I’m focused on,” Cyrus said. “For being such an opinionated, sure person, this is a element in my life that I’ve always been pretty not super attached to, like a yes or no answer.”

The “Flowers” singer referenced a conversation she had with her stepfather, Dominic Purcell, who married her mother, Tish Cyrus, in 2023.

“I was talking to my step dad, and he said, ‘Why are you the only celebrity without a makeup line?’ And I said, ‘Because I’m not passionate about it.’ He said, ‘That’s the right answer,’” she recalled.

Cyrus added that she feels the same way about motherhood.

“It’s just never been something that I’ve been overly, you know, passionate about, and it’s a lot of responsibility and it’s a lot of devotion and energy,” she said. “And I don’t think, if you’re not passionate about that, I don’t know how you do sleepless nights and 18 years of what my mom dealt with.”

She added: “And when I say 18 years, I mean 33 because I’m still a baby. So I’ve never felt the burn, you know, and I think for me, like, the burn is everything.”

Cyrus’ fans reacted to her comments on social media, with many expressing they felt similarly on the topic of children.

“Hearing this from Miley is so reassuring. I’m the same age as her. Motherhood is not for everyone,” one person posted on X.

“miley has already mothered millions of girls and gays for the past 20 years….i think she’s good!” another person wrote on X.

“she’s already mother of music,” an X user said.

Cyrus released her ninth studio album, “Something Beautiful,” on May 30, and has long been open with her stance on having children.

In a 2019 interview with Elle, in the wake of the Woolsey Fire in 2018 that destroyed her home in Malibu, California, she said she didn’t want to have children at the time because she knows the Earth “can’t handle it.”

“We’re getting handed a piece-of-s— planet, and I refuse to hand that down to my child,” she said. “Until I feel like my kid would live on an earth with fish in the water, I’m not bringing in another person to deal with that.”
