Unicoi County organizes kids safety day focused on bicycle safety

The Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce hosted a kids safety day Saturday in Erwin.

The event focused on bicycle safety and a grant funded 100 free bicycle helmets for kids.

There was also an obstacle course for kids to ride their bikes on.

Kids could also learn about safety from area organizations, Including the YMCA, Unicoi County Drug Coalition, and Ballad Health

Amanda Delp, Executive Director of the Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce told News Five, “It is very important when you are outside enjoying the outdoor recreation, especially in a beautiful community like ours, that when you go out and enjoy those events you’re safe in doing so and wearing a helmet is certainly the most important thing to do when you’re out biking.”

Police officers and fire-fighters also offered free car seat checks at the event.
