The only game in this article that was one of the biggest releases of May 2025, was the highest scoring game of the month. So look forward to a couple gems that flew under the radar. The Good

Doom: The Dark Ages

Doom: The Dark Ages sounds amazing. It changes up the gameplay of Doom: Eternal, by focusing on melee combat. The player wields a shield and has to do a lot of parrying. It’s a key change to the gameplay formula that works well, and fundamentally changes the way Doom feels. Our reviewer also loved the narrative. They concluded “this is the most impressive Doom game iD has developed”. Doom: The Dark Ages is the highest scoring game on The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games May 2025.

The Midnight Walk

The Midnight Walk is a narrative-driven first-person adventure game. It’s an emotional story, told with Tim Burton-like design, and stop motion animation. It’s got some light puzzle mechanics. The gameplay is actually maybe the only real point of criticism against The Midnight Walk, as there’s basically no challenge. Our reviewer concluded “Though it offers little in the way of traditional challenge, the emotional journey it delivers lingers long after the credits roll”. The strong narrative was the main reason The Midnight Walk made it in The Good section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games May 2025.

Revenge of the Savage Planet

Revenge of the Savage Planet is the sequel to Journey to the Savage Planet. The original is a first-person shooter, but this sequel is in third person. There’s also a stronger emphasis on exploration. Our reviewer loved the game’s sense of humor and focus on co-op gameplay. They wrote “Excellent visuals, solid game-play, plenty of fun & interesting areas to explore, secrets to uncover, and a overall humorous tone make it a top-notch effort”. Although some bugs make it the lowest scoring game in The Good section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games May 2025.
