Surf Dreams Foundation introduces kids to surfing for free in Surfside Beach

Over 90 children took to the waves at Surfside Beach on Sunday.

“Take a Kid Surfing Day” was organized by the Surf Dreams Foundation and held on 13th Avenue South.

The goal was to teach children how to surf while fostering friendships and family connections.

Philip Jackson, the executive director of the Surf Dreams Foundation, said the organization was founded in 2013 with the mission of getting kids into the water and sharing the love of surfing.

We have a great surfing community here. We have a long history of surfing in Garden City, Surfside, Myrtle Beach area with a ton of legends here,” Jackson said. “I just wanted to take that and move forward with it and get more kids into surfing cause there’s a lot of other things that they can be doing out there, so I wanna just keep the stoke of surfing alive.

The foundation hosts six to seven events annually, including one in Oak Island, North Carolina.

He said the foundation was born from a desire to fill a gap in the community and introduce more children to surfing, a sport he credits with saving his life.

“Water and surfing are healthy, and we have the most beautiful resources,” Jackson said.

All surf lessons provided by the foundation are free.
