LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock organization is hoping to help children develop discipline and leadership skills before they graduate high school.
The South Plains Young Marines hosted an open house on Saturday.
It’s not a program for kids with disciplinary or legal problems. Instead, the organization provides training in leadership, citizenship, fitness, and community service, in hopes of helping kids develop the skills and, most importantly, the confidence to prepare them for success.
“When they are really shy and they come here and they don’t really want to do anything, then they are speaking to other people in public, because we do public speaking…growing and interacting with our other kids that are in the program, and just becoming good leaders and really shaping up and taking on responsibilities that they never thought possible,” Brandi Cuellar said.
