Nominations open for VWSD Athletic Hall of Fame

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg Warren School District (VWSD) has announced nominations for Athletic Hall of Fame to honor athletes, coaches, and administrators who have made significant contributions to the district’s athletic programs at Vicksburg High School and Warren Central High School.

The Hall of Fame is designed to recognize individuals who have demonstrated excellence in sports, upheld the values of sportsmanship, and brought honor to the school district. Nominations may be submitted by the general public or members of the selection committee.

Eligibility requirements are divided into three categories: athletes, coaches and administrators.

To be considered, athletes must have participated in athletics for at least two years at either high school beginning in 1970 or later, and must be part of a class that graduated at least 15 years prior to nomination.

Coaches must have a minimum of five years of experience coaching and a total of at least 10 years in their sport. They must also be retired from coaching the sport for at least five years before becoming eligible.

Administrators must be at least five years removed from their role and have made a significant impact on VWSD athletics.

Exceptions to these requirements may be granted at the discretion of the Hall of Fame committee.

The committee will consist of no more than 12 members, with a two-thirds majority required for a candidate to be elected. Voting will be conducted by secret ballot. A quorum of five members is needed to hold a meeting, and at least six members must be present for a vote. New committee members will be elected by a majority vote of the remaining members.

Induction ceremonies will take place on September 18. Honorees will be presented with an award and introduced during halftime of the annual varsity football game between Vicksburg High School and Warren Central High School on September 19.
