MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Today was the fundraiser for the 19th annual DHUGG scholarship.
People came to Mom and Pop’s Soul Food Kitchen off North Frontage Road for their choice of a barbecue rib plate, pulled pork plate, or catfish plate and their choice of two sides.
This scholarship is given each year to two students at Meridian Community College, in honor of Dennis Huggins III.
Jay Huggins said this scholarship means a lot to her because it helps her honor her brother and helps students further their education.
“Previously we were doing a basketball tournament, but last year we had such a success with the food part of it, we decided to do it again this year,” said Huggins. “We’ve been having major success and I’m just thankful. And we’re also blessed that God has taken us this far with this fundraiser.”
