The Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District enforces food safety

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – As many Texomans go out and enjoy local restaurants in their area, the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District works behind the scenes to keep them safe.

This all happens through regular food safety inspections, ensuring that local businesses are staying up to code.

Samantha Blair, environmental health administrator for the health district, said it takes routine permit and complaint inspections to stay up to code.

“Here in Wichita County, we are the local jurisdictional authority for retail food establishments and so we do routine and permit inspections, and we also do complaint-based inspections and out routine and permit inspections are going to be unannounced inspections minimum of twice a year if you are a facility that needs more support, you’ll see us more often,” Blair said.

Blair said the public health district looks for certain factors to stop the spread of foodborne illnesses.

“We’re looking at temperatures, making sure that our temperatures are safe, we’re looking at the source of the food, making sure that it’s coming from a proper source and not just you know someone’s backyard, and making sure that it’s cooked by employees who are healthy as well,” she said.

Wichita Falls residents can look for more information on the health department’s website.
