BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The hunger in the Brazos Valley doesn’t take a break in the summer, which is why the Brazos Valley Food bank is collecting items to stock their shelves for the KBTX summer food drive.
Communications and development director Amanda Stark says the drive was created to fill the hole of kids who get free lunch during the school year but are now home for the summer.
Examples of some of the best foods to donate include canned vegetables, proteins like tuna or chicken and any non perishable foods.
There will be six drop off locations throughout the month of June to drop off either food or monetary donations for the organization:
- Paradowski Law Firm: June 2, 4:30 p.m.-6 p.m.
- Aggieland Outfitters: June 3, 4 p.m.-6 p.m.
- Aggieland Roofing: June 4, 4 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
- Douglass Mazda and Volkswagen: June 5, 4 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
- Amarillo National Bank: June 6, 4 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
- Brazos Valley Food Bank: June 27 4 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
Stark said they are seeing a higher need this year but they are facing a lack of resources.
“Our numbers are higher than they were during the pandemic,” Stark said. “And a lot of these government resources that were provided are being cut, so people are depending on us and our partners a lot more.”
