New food truck spices up plant-based offerings

ELLSWORTH, Maine (WABI) – Who says vegan food has to be boring? A new food truck in Ellsworth is looking to spice things up!

Fancy Plants opened their 100% plant-based food truck Tuesday.

Currently, they are parked at Fika Boutique in Ellsworth, right on Rt. 3.

Behind the operation is Jeff Tague. With the encouragement of his family and friends, he decided to take a leap of faith by leaving an unfulfilling corporate job to pursue his passion of ‘chefing up’ creative vegan food.

Fancy Plants’ menu features Latin-inspired dishes, such as quesadillas, nachos and tacos, all entirely plant-based with many gluten free options as well.

As a long-time vegan and vegetarian, Tague felt dissatisfied with the lack of plant-based options at restaurants.

To combat this, Tague wanted to showcase the unlimited flavor possibilities of plant-based foods.

“I mean, people think kale, quinoa, salads, right? That’s the vegan diet. No, that couldn’t be further from the truth here,” explains Tague. “And it’s important because, I mean, for vegans, plant-based eaters, for everybody, it’s for everyone. And you don’t have to think about what’s on the menu, you don’t have to choose, ‘Well, is this okay for me to eat?’ Like, we have options for literally everyone.”

After setting up shop Tuesday, Tague says Fancy Plants has been a hit! He even had to close early on the truck’s first day due to selling out.

To try Fancy Plants yourself, they will be at FIKA Boutique on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Tague adds they are planning on hitting the road this summer to attend different events around Maine.
