NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – School is out for the summer for most Lowcountry students and, while that may be cause for relief among many young people, it also brings challenges when it comes to several others having access to meals.
One in every five Lowcountry children is food insecure, which is only exacerbated by the end of the school year as children who rely on free school meals are left with gaps in their nutrition, threatening their growth and well-being.
That’s why Live 5 News is partnering with Lowcountry Food Bank for the 2025 Rise and Shine Summer Food Drive, which starts Friday.
The Lowcountry Food Bank serves 10 communities up and down the coast of South Carolina, with operations rooted, of course, in the Lowcountry.
There are two ways to support the organization’s mission: donate non-perishable breakfast items like cereal, granola bars, oatmeal, grits, peanut butter, dried fruit, canned fruit, juice and other nutrition drinks at the following locations:
Crews Chevrolet
8199 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406
Crews Subaru
8261 Rivers Avenue North Charleston, SC 29406
Trey Harrell Law Firm
2000 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard, Suite 2002, Charleston, SC 29407
The Lowcountry Food Bank is also accepting monetary donations. Every dollar donated can provide three meals for students in need. Help us reach our goal of raising $50,000!
The 2025 Rise and Shine Summer Food Drive is happening right now and will continue through Aug. 1.
