Liverpool fan and writer Adam Beattie spoke to BBC Radio Merseyside about the need to sign another centre-forward this summer: “Darwin Nunez’s time has run its course. It has been an experiment, and generally we get it right with the big-money signings, but it’s bound to [go wrong] eventually.
“People may be surprised at the fee Nunez may end up commanding because there is not really top-drawer number nines out there.
“It is an area we have needed to freshen for a while. I could make a case to let [Diogo] Jota go but I don’t think you can let him and Nunez go. You would be leaving yourself too much to do.
“Even if [Florian] Wirtz comes in, there is an argument to get a number nine – but there are not many that leap out at you.”
