DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – It’s the season for convertibles, and our radio partners at KQDS have the perfect event.
“It has to do with people getting their convertibles out, their side by sides, their ATVs and motorcycles and heading up to Do North Sportsmen’s Edition and hanging out for a couple of hours,” said Jason Manning of KQDS.
The gathering is called Topless Thursday, and it runs in the evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Thursday.
Do North Pizzeria Sportsmen’s Edition is at the corner of Howard Gnesen and Normanna Roads between Rice Lake and Island Lake.
There, you’ll probably find 85-year-old Northland car guru Don Chesney with one of his drop tops.
“I got a ’68 Montego, which is really rare, and it’s a beautiful car, and I drooled over getting it,” said Chesney.
Chesney tells us taking care of a convertible isn’t much harder than an enclosed car if you keep up on the maintenance.
“Just good maintenance takes care of everything, you know,w and whatever you do, scrub them and clean them up and use them,” said Chesney.
Topless Thursday attendees are eligible for a whole slew of prizes donated by local businesses.
You don’t have to own or bring a topless vehicle to take part in the fun.
“Anybody, everybody is welcome to show up, and if you have a topless vehicle, bonus points to you!” said Manning.
“As soon as I get the brakes fixed on this old Spitfire here, I’ll be joining the party as well,” said Dave Anderson with his well-worn British drop top.
