HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – The school year is ending, but the learning will continue all summer in Hattiesburg’s Sixth Street Museum District.
The District has announced its schedule of free summer camp activities, called “Discovery Days in the District.”
They included events like “Storytime with a Soldier,” “Science Saturday at Smith Drug Co.” and the “Needham Jones Boot Camp.”
This summer will also feature the “Charles J. Brown Youth Civic Engagement and Leadership Camp.”
The camp, in its second year, was named in honor of the late Charles J. Brown, Hattiesburg’s first Veteran of the Year.
Brown passed away on Feb. 6, 2025.
“He was always really good with youth, if nobody else could get their attention, Mr. Brown could,” said Vanessa Molden, operations and visitor engagement manager for the Sixth Street Museum District.
“So, we just wanted to honor him in a special way and this is one way we thought we could do that.”
Pre-registering for each activity is encouraged.
