New food van expands access to fresh produce across Central Virginia

ROSELAND, Va. (WVIR) – A new effort is rolling out to help fight food insecurity across Central Virginia, and it’s hitting the road with the help of a local brewery.

The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank unveiled its new fresh food express van Wednesday, May 28, at Devils Backbone Brewing in Nelson County.

The van is designed to deliver fresh fruits and vegetables to underserved areas where access to healthy options is limited.

“The Food Bank provides that backbone support for all of our pantries,” BRAFB’s Director of Development and Community Engagement Millie Winstead said. “This fresh food express van is just an example of that. It’s the ability to get to them where they are, when they need it, and how they deliver it.”

Organizers say this van is just one more step toward bridging the food access gap in rural and underserved communities.
