Behind the Business: Savepoint Retro

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —Calling all gamers, a Magic Valley business will help you level up, offering classic games.

“We pretty much do anything gaming-related, but our forte is retro video games,” Josh Niccum, owner of Savepoint Retro, said.

He said his love for video games, especially older games, began in his younger years.

“Growing up, I always had all the consoles from the previous generation. It was just, I grew a love for some of the original classics,” Niccum explained.

He wanted to bring another retro store to Twin Falls after the last one moved to Boise, so he opened this shop at Centennial Square along Blue Lakes Boulevard North.

Niccum said he believes it’s an important staple that a community, like the Magic Valley, should have.

“Really, it’s just to have a place to meet people that have the kind of same interests, and to look for stuff that, you know, may be a little bit harder to find,” he said.

Savepoint Retro sells a variety of videogames for all consoles, they also sell gaming equipment you might be looking for.

“We have an internet cafe where you can bring in your own laptop. We have tournaments. Pretty much anything gaming-related, we do,” he said.

SavePoint Retro doesn’t only let you buy games, but you can also try out the games and play them in-store, like Pac-Man.

“SavePoint is like where you feel safe. It’s like the little safe room in some games, or where you get to, you can like take a break. And I thought that would be just a good name for the store, and then retro, retro video games,” Niccum said.

SavePoint is for gamers of all levels to come together for a fun time.

“There’s a lot of people that are very dedicated, and there’s a lot of people that just don’t really have a social outlet,” he said.
