At its April meeting, the Sussex Economic Development Action Committee (SEDAC) heard from Cathy Kanefsky and Chad Robinson from the Food Bank of Delaware. The Food Bank’s presentation highlighted the services it provides to the community, including its workforce training, as well as recent, severe funding shortages they are experiencing at a federal level to provide food for Delawareans who are experiencing food insecurity.
True to its name and struck by the urgency of the situation, SEDAC members pledged $5,000 in individual donations, matched by a $5,000 organizational donation, for a total of $10,000.

“What really stood out to me is that 1 in 6 Delaware children are food-insecure and that a $1 donation equals three meals,” said SEDAC Chairperson Scott Thomas.
“We are grateful for SEDAC’s incredible generosity,” said Food Bank of Delaware President and CEO Cathy Kanefsky. “This donation will enable us to provide 30,000 meals to our neighbors experiencing food insecurity. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on our communities.”
