Lincoln food truck brings sauces, seasonings to Hy-Vee

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Back in October, 10/11 shared a story of how one Lincoln mother was honoring her son by opening a food truck. On Tuesday, she hit a major milestone.

Marlina Bowdery’s son was killed in a shooting back in 2020, and ever since, she’s been battling with that grief. She closed her restaurant and then launched a food truck, M&J’s Southern Style Food.

Now Bowdery’s sauces and seasonings are on the shelves at Hy-Vee. She tried to do this back in 2021, but citing her mental health, she couldn’t keep up with the orders. She said the journey to get to this point has been nothing short of a rollercoaster.

“Ups and downs, the to tsunami waves of grief,” Bowdery said. “The love of my son and me, honor of my son. You know, that’s my motivation to get back out here to do what I love and what he loved for me to do.”

She said Hy-Vee corporate has already asked her to make enough product to be sold in every store across the region. Her next goal is to once again open a brick and mortar restaurant within the next year or so.
