LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Operations have been halted at Pan-African Food Distributors in Louisville after inspectors discovered a rodent infestation.
That’s according to information posted last week on the Food and Drug Administration’s website.
The inspection teams found rodent droppings on several product containers at the distributor located on Millers Lane, which does business under the name of East Africa Boutique LLC. The discovery prompted the state of Kentucky to shut down the company.
A blanket quarantine of affected products has been issued.
Potentially contaminated products include various ready-to-eat and/or shelf stable food items including infant nutritional cereals, baking ingredients, and other food products imported and distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors Inc. doing business as (dba) East Africa Boutique LLC. Products may or may not include a label with the firm name.
Officials are urging the voluntary disposal of all contaminated food. The business will not be allowed to reopen until the issue has been addressed.
Consumers should check their homes for products described below and discard all products. Additionally, consumers should carefully clean and sanitize surfaces that could have come in contact with potentially contaminated products.
Consuming the contaminated products could pose a serious health risk, potentially leading to various illnesses, including leptospirosis, hantavirus infection, salmonellosis, yersiniosis, E.coli infection, and rat-bite fever. People should contact their healthcare provider if they suspect they have developed symptoms as a result of eating these products.
Retailers and distributors that purchased or received products described below from Pan-African Food Distributors should not sell or serve potentially contaminated products and should clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that could have come in contact with potentially contaminated products.
