CMU Celebrates Groundbreaking of Formation Food Hall During Centennial Year

Colorado Mesa University marked a significant milestone in its 100th year with the official groundbreaking of Formation Food Hall—a new dining facility designed to serve both the expanding campus and the greater Grand Junction community. Held on May 16, the ceremony included CMU President John Marshall, members of the CMU Board of Trustees, Grand Junction City Manager Mike Bennett, City Council Member Laurel Cole and representatives from Haselden Construction. The event celebrated not just the physical growth of campus but also CMU’s continued investment in community spaces that bring people together.

“The Formation Dining Hall is being created not just to support our growing campus, but also to offer another great dining option for the broader community,” said CMU Board of Trustees Chair Tim Fry. “We want to bring food choices to campus that residents can’t get anywhere else and continue showing the community they’re always welcome here.”

Strategically located between the Asteria Theatre and Hotel Maverick, Formation Food Hall will offer a modern, dynamic food experience with multiple dining concepts under one roof. The hall will provide flexible indoor and outdoor seating, creating a welcoming environment for students, visitors and the broader community.

Formation Food Hall is expected to open in 2026.
