CINCINNATI (WXIX) -A local food rescue collected thousands of pounds of food from Taste of Cincinnati as the festival came to a close Monday night.
Volunteer Coordinator with Last Mile Food Rescue, Ering Lord, explained to FOX 19 that they attend large festivals and catered events to pick up leftovers and transport them to food pantries.
“We’re a sort of transport piece in the center of it, making sure that things that are going to wind up wasted are instead going to get to people,” she said.

She said an event like Taste of Cincinnati typically results in around a thousand pounds of food that they freeze overnight and distribute the very next day.
Lord said that within 24 hours, people in need would be eating the food they collected on Monday.
She said they have a partnership with the Chamber of Commerce to keep a supply trickling in, but they’ll speak to any vendor to bring in as much as possible.
