While everyone is finalizing Memorial Day weekend plans, here are just some of the events taking place in the Daytona Beach area if you’re looking for fun over the next few days.
From wine tasting to a classic car show and even a bioluminescence kayaking tour, the choices are plenty.
Here are five things happening in Volusia and Flagler counties:
Wine Walk on Flagler Avenue
The traditional monthly Wine Walk on Flagler Avenue takes place Saturday, May 24, from 1 to 7 p.m. on the iconic Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach.
“During the event, locations offer both one and multi-ticket wines to sample of the 100+ featured wines for the month,” according to organizers. The event’s “tasting passports” cost $30 “and include 20 tasting tickets along with a keepsake wine glass, map and listing of each host locations wines for the month.”
The street will not be closed for the Wine Walk, as it takes place inside host locations all along Flagler Avenue.
Advanced tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite or beginning at noon on Saturday (cash only).
Stargazing and bioluminescence kayak tours
Nighttime kayaking isn’t scary if you are looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience: Taking a bioluminescence pedal kayaking tour.
Viking Ecotours will host the experience Sunday, May 25, in Oak Hill, and kayakers will “be mesmerized by the twinkling stars above and the glowing bioluminescence below as you kayak through the protected waters of Canaveral National Seashore,” organizers said.
According to Ocean Conservancy, bioluminescence is a chemical process through which some sea life organisms emit light, including some animal species.
During this weekend’s event, which sets out from River Breeze Park at 250 H. H. Burch Road, attendees could encounter “bioluminescent plankton and bioluminescent comb jellies” to illuminate the tour’s path, according to Viking Ecotours.
Tickets start at $120. For information, visit tickets.vikingecotours.com.
Argentine Tango Milonga class in Ormond Beach
If you love to dance and want to learn some new moves, Argentine Tango might not be a bad choice.
Argentine Tango Instructor Natalya Ogirya will host a class at Ormond Beach’s JJ’s Dance Fusion (298 S. Nova Road) “filled with passion, elegance, and of course, tango!” according to the dance studio.
“This event is for both seasoned and beginners and is perfect for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the world of Argentine tango,” organizers added.
Tickets are $20 per person or $30 for couples. The class takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 25.
Discover downtown Daytona history in digital scavenger hunt
You don’t have to choose between spending all weekend on your phone and going out. A digital scavenger hunt through Daytona’s downtown neighborhood offers the combined experience.
“As famous as Daytona may be for its high-speed races and breathtaking beaches, this scavenger hunt will give you an insider’s look into the city’s rich history and fascinating landmarks,” according to organizing company Let’s Roam’s website.
For $14.99, participants can buy an electronic ticket for the event, which they can access by downloading the Let’s Roam app while exploring at their own pace in this app-guided walking tour. The whole thing lasts about 1.5 hours and covers an area of about 1.7 miles, according to organizers.
“Witness firsthand the impact of legendary figures like Dale Earnhardt and William H. G. France and Anne Bledsoe France on this exciting adventure,” organizers said. “Dive into history with the iconic Jantzen Diving Girl and stroll down the Champions Walk of Fame on this unforgettable journey.”

4th annual Craig Flagler Palms Car Show
In Flagler, classic car lovers have the perfect opportunity to get together and enjoy looking at some cool rides.
This will be the event’s fourth edition, hosted by Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home at 511 Old Kings Road S., in Flagler Beach.
“Bring the whole family for a day of classic cars, cool rides and community fun,” organizers said. “Enjoy free ice cream and lunch while you check out an incredible lineup of vehicles.”
The car show takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 24. Admission is free, but a $10 donation for car show participants is encouraged.
“All proceeds benefit Wreaths Across America, helping to honor and remember our nation’s heroes,” organizers added.
