Gilda’s Club Rochester has officially opened its new emergency food pantry. The nonprofit provides non-medical support to those fighting cancer.
Gilda’s Club says the pantry can help those with the disease eat healthy while keeping up their fight. The agency says its food and nutrition programs aim to address food insecurity and nutritional vulnerabilities that can put the well-being of cancer patients at risk.
“The folks that we see here, we know this is a concern, we know that it’s an issue, and again, we’re doing these programs here to lower those food insecurity issues,” said James Love, CEO of Gilda’s Club Rochester.
Love says Gilda’s Club anticipates, in the first month, it will be providing programs through the food pantry for about 50 cancer patients. The agency expects that number to increase.
