Prepare your village: The legendary video game Clash of Clans is coming to life as an animated series on Netflix.
Currently in pre-production, the show will build on the beloved worlds of Supercell franchises Clash of Clans and Clash Royale, two of the biggest games of all time. Both launched on iOS and Android in 2012, and since then, have totaled four billion downloads and 180 billion gameplay hours by fans across the world. The series will follow a determined but in-over-his-head Barbarian who must rally a band of misfits to defend their village and navigate the comically absurd politics of war.
Fletcher Moules (Entergalactic, Agent Elvis), who directed the original and widely viewed Clash of Clans animated videos, will serve as showrunner. He is joined by writer Ron Weiner (Silicon Valley, 30 Rock, Futurama, Arrested Development) with Vancouver-based ICON Creative Studio leading the animation. “Clash has been a global gaming phenomenon for over a decade — filled with humor, action, and unforgettable characters perfect for an animated series adaptation,” says John Derderian, Vice President of Animation Series at Netflix. “Working with the incredible team at Supercell, Fletcher Moules, and Ron Weiner, we’re bringing all the fun, chaos, and spirit of the world of Clash to life in a whole new way. We can’t wait for fans — old and new — to experience the mayhem.”
Supercell is a game company based in Helsinki, Finland, with offices in San Francisco, London, Seoul, and Shanghai. Since its founding in 2010, the company has brought seven games to the global market: Hay Day, Clash of Clans, Boom Beach, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, Squad Busters, and mo.co. “We’re thrilled to be working with Netflix and this creative team to bring the world of CLASH to life,” says Curtis Lelash, the head of film and TV at Supercell. “Think epic battles, immaculate Barbarian mustaches, and the kind of humor our players know and love. They’ve been asking for a Clash series forever, and we’re beyond excited to finally say: It’s happening!”
Clash is in good hands: Netflix has proven to be a welcome home for many animated series, including Arcane, Devil May Cry, Blue Eye Samurai, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, and Sonic Prime alongside a number of exciting upcoming titles like Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, a new animated series set in the Stranger Things universe.
