Do you remember a roguelike deck-builder prototype that we introduced half a year ago, called Shroom and Gloom? The project that started as a jam game back in 2021 has evolved further from a prototype to a demo, which was just released yesterday.
This first-person dungeon-crawling deck builder with a beautiful hand-drawn art style has been under development at South Africa-based indie studio Team Lazerbeam, which draws inspiration from Slay the Spire and Inscryption.
The major unique tweak is that the game allows players to build a second deck (so it’s more accurate to call it a double-deckbuilder). The explore deck is used to explore the weird and moody dungeons, modify your cards, and unearth new weapons; while the combat deck is your powerful tool to hack, slash, roast and eat the strange creatures that block your way. “Grow wild abominations and discover unholy synergies.”
As you play more, the basic cards can evolve into powerful attacks, while rare cards can transform into “game-changing super-weapons.”
