How to donate to the food bank through WDSU’s Big Summer Food Drive

Summer is almost here, and the food bank needs your help. Southeast Louisiana residents can help fight food insecurity this summer by donating to WDSU’s Big Summer Food Drive!People can bring non-perishable donations to these Rouses locations Wednesday, May 21 starting at noon: New Orleans Rouses on Tchoupitoulas StreetMetairie Rouses on Veterans BoulevardMandeville Rouses on East Causeway ApproachWDSU alumni such as Margaret Orr, Norman Robinson, Heath Allen, and Ro Brown will stop by these locations to encourage donations. Rouses has also made available pre-packaged donation bags at all locations for just $10. These bags can be purchased from now until Wednesday, May 21. For those who cannot donate in person, monetary donations can be made here.The following items are needed: Canned Meat/FishPeanut ButterDried or Canned BeansCanned Soup/Stew/ChiliCanned Fruit/VegetablesPastaTomato Sauce (no glass)RiceGranola BarsCases of Bottled WaterThe following items cannot be accepted: Glass (can break)Chips/Snacks in Cellophane Bags (can pop)Perishable FoodsNon food itemsItems past “use by” date or 6 months past “best by” dateRusty/unlabeled/opened itemsLet’s help our neighbors in need — together.

  • Metairie Rouses on Veterans Boulevard
  • Mandeville Rouses on East Causeway Approach

WDSU alumni such as Margaret Orr, Norman Robinson, Heath Allen, and Ro Brown will stop by these locations to encourage donations.

The following items are needed:

  • Canned Meat/Fish
  • Peanut Butter
  • Dried or Canned Beans
  • Canned Soup/Stew/Chili
  • Canned Fruit/Vegetables
  • Pasta
  • Tomato Sauce (no glass)
  • Rice
  • Granola Bars
  • Cases of Bottled Water

The following items cannot be accepted:

  • Glass (can break)
  • Chips/Snacks in Cellophane Bags (can pop)
  • Perishable Foods
  • Non food items
  • Items past “use by” date or 6 months past “best by” date
  • Rusty/unlabeled/opened items
