Busch’s Fresh Food Market celebrates 50 years of serving shoppers in southeast Michigan

Busch’s Fresh Food Market is celebrating 50 years in business and thanking their customers in five counties with great deals.

The family-owned supermarket chain will have a 10-day sale from May 15-25, with anniversary pricing reaching all 16 of their stores, including Novi, South Lyon, Farmington Hills, Livonia, Plymouth and Canton locations.

“I’m very grateful that we can celebrate 50 years in the community with everyone who has invested in us,” Busch’s Fresh Food Market CEO Gary Pfeil said. “We are so blessed by the loyalty of our guests, the dedication of our associates and the support of our many vendors who ensure we continue to offer the freshest, high-quality foods available.”

To celebrate half a century, the supermarket is offering half off numerous items, including Dietz & Watson sliced turkey breast, chicken breast and Black Forest ham; gourmet cheddar cheese, sourdough bread, kettle chips, frozen raw shrimp, floral flats and fresh St. Louis style ribs.

If you’re a barbecue fan, you may want to stop by your local Busch’s store from 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m., May 24-25, where staff will be doing the cooking and offering a full slab of baby back ribs for $14; half a slab for $8; pulled pork sandwiches for $6; an 8-inch pan of cornbread for $6.99 or a slice for $3.49; and corn on the cob for $1.49 per ear.

Busch’s also will be cooking up Dearborn hot dogs at all stores on May 17-18 in a charity event with all proceeds benefiting local food banks including Forgotten Harvest and Gleaners.

Want more Michigan-made food? A Celebrate Local Tasting event will be hosted May 17-18 at the chain’s two Ann Arbor stores in which customers can meet local food vendors and sample products.

Joe Busch and Charlie Mattis founded Busch’s Fresh Food Market in 1975 with two stores, in Clinton and Saline, that they started under the name of J&C Family Foods. When Joe Busch retired 11 years later, his three sons took over the business, continuing to build and acquire stores, each of which range from 26,000 to 51,000 square feet.

All operate as full-service supermarkets and several have been remodeled multiple times, including Farmington Hills and Novi, which was expanded last year, and South Lyon, which was remodeled in 2023 and also had a Starbucks counter added.

“Our annual investments in store improvements are about more than just enhancing the shopping experience; they’re about deepening our connection to the communities that have supported us for half a century,” Busch’s President Bobby Turner said. “As we celebrate this milestone, we remain focused on delivering quality, service and local impact well into the future.”
