Chris Harris, associate professor of finance and chair of the finance department, recently spoke with WalletHub about what people should know when looking at credit card fees.

“The best way to avoid credit card fees is to avoid credit cards that charge an annual fee, and any of the activities that may also include a fee,” said Harris. “For example, many credit cards will charge a fee if you take a cash advance or use the card internationally. By understanding what your typical spending patterns are and what fees a particular card will charge (or will not charge) before you sign up, you can make sure to get a card that will give you the flexibility you want without paying additional fees.”

Harris also advised on whether it makes sense to get a credit card with an annual fee for better benefits and whether to watch out for credit card fees or interest fees more. Read his full interview with WalletHub online.
