Mets Fans Get News on Potential Blockbuster Luis Robert Trade

With the New York Mets off to a National League East-leading 26-15 after a 6-2 win over the red-hot Chicago Cubs, it doesn’t seem there’s much that could be improved.

Juan Soto has been great, with a 1.219 OPS and five home runs in May after posting a mediocre .701 OPS in his first month in Queens.

The one area that feels shaky is center field, where Jose Siri’s fractured tibia has left Tyrone Taylor as the Mets’ best option; Taylor has only a .648 OPS and .241 average with one home run.

As a result, the Mets have been connected all year to White Sox outfielder Luis Robert, who has long been considered Chicago’s best trade chip,.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale has been igniting the flame of rumors connecting Robert to the Mets, with his May 4th column suggesting the White Sox were interested in moving Robert before Memorial Day, while his value is still high, and his column Sunday saying the Mets have checked in on Robert.

The return, per Nightengale, seems to center around Mets’ No. 15 prospect pitcher Blake Tidwell.

However, MLB Network insider Jon Heyman poured cold water on any rumors, saying there’s “nothing hot” between the two teams. Of course, that could change, and reports saying there are the beginnings of trade talks should give fans some hope.

Robert has gone just 4-for-19 since Nightengale’s column on May 4th, and has posted a subpar 82 wRC+ in 137 games since the start of 2024, also striking out 32.6% of the time.

His power potential is definitely there, and the White Sox would be smart to explore a trade at the right price.
