LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – On Saturday, all across the country, residents could leave food out in a bag left for them in their mailboxes, with that food making its way to the local food bank.
The effort, Stamp Out Hunger, is led by the National Association of Letter Carriers.
The event is the nation’s largest single-day food drive.
All donations in Lawton are taken to the Post Office on West Gore Boulevard before making their way to the Lawton Food Bank.
“As schools are out for the summer, the need we see increases, and we’ve seen several other things affecting the need here in the community for food,” said Mac Lechel, Executive Director for the Lawton Food Bank. “So, seeing this amount of food pouring in this early in the day, it really just warms your heart because we know that our neighbors are going to need it, and so we’re so grateful that our community’s coming together to pull off one of the biggest food drives in the community.”
