NEW YORK (WRGB) — A new study shows veterans are using video games to decompress post-military service.
The Entertainment Software Association served veterans across the country, and 86% of veterans said console video games provided an outlet for them.
It also helped them cope with difficult times and positively impacted post-military service.
Games veterans who are part of the survey say they enjoy Call of Duty, Fortnite, and Grand Theft Auto.
“That 79%, so almost the same amount, say that they are playing games with other people and it’s a way for them to connect with friends who might be across the country, people that they know in real life, but also people they knew in the military during their time in service, as well as other veterans,” said Aubrey Quinn, Senior VP of ESA. “So it’s not an isolating activity for them, for the majority of them, they’re using video games to stay connected to friends and family.”
According to the study, the average veteran video gamer is a 37-year-old male, college-educated, with a full-time job and married with kids.
