MISSOULA, Mont. — Missoula Parks and Recreation hosted its first Kids’ Fishing Day at McCormick Park on Saturday morning.
During the free event, kids had the opportunity to put their fishing skills to the test and compete against others in their age group for a chance to win prizes and awards.
Prizes were awarded to participants in multiple categories, including youngest angler to catch a fish, smallest fish caught, biggest fish caught and most fish caught.
Kids ages 11 and younger didn’t need a fishing license to compete, however kids ages 12 through 14 needed an FWP Conservation License to follow FWP rules.
A limited amount of bait and fishing poles were provided to children on a first come, first-served basis.
Competitors were encouraged to catch and release the fish at the event, which was made possible by a family donation in memory of Bill Phelps.
