Food Share of Ventura County is teaming up with National Association of Letter Carriers May 10 for an annual food drive described as the nation’s largest for one day.

This week, residents received bags in their mailboxes to fill with non-perishable items for the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. The bags should be left near the mailbox by 8 a.m. May 10.

“These are challenging times,” said Monica White, president and CEO of the regional foodbank. “Most of the 250,000 people we serve are working, often more than one job, yet they still can’t afford nutritious food.”

The most requested items at Food Share include rice, pasta, beans, canned proteins like chicken and tuna, peanut butter and cereal, organizers said in a news release.

Residents are discouraged from donating homemade, prepared or fresh foods like bread or cooked chicken. For safety reasons, donors are asked not to include glass containers.

The food collected May 10 will be distributed to Food Share’s 190 pantry partners across Ventura County.

Food Share is also seeking volunteers to assist with food collection at these post office locations:

  • Camarillo: 2150 Pickwick Drive, Camarillo
  • Thousand Oak: 3435 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd.
  • Oxnard: 1961 N. C St.
  • Ventura: 41 S. Wake Forest Drive
  • Simi Valley: 2551 Galena Ave. and 225 Simi Village Drive
