Wichita Falls Regional Airport starts search for new food vendor

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – The Wichita Falls Regional Airport is searching for a new food vendor. The food vendor location at the airport has remained vacant for several years after the previous restaurant closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officials at the airport are looking to support either a local business or bring in a larger company with ties to Texas.

Airport operations supervisor Matthew Burek said a new restaurant could increase traffic to the waiting terminal and improve the travel experience.

“A new food vendor at the airport would really increase just the general welcomeness of this beautiful airport that is Wichita Falls, and it’s another piece that needs to be filled, you know? Let’s get a nice food vendor in here,” Burek said.

Burek also shared what kind of restaurant he hopes will occupy the space.

“I would have an amazing lunch spot. OK, I would open at 11:00 and I would probably close at 2:30 or 3, and my goal would just be lunch. I want to get people to come here, enjoy my soup, get my sandwich, have a slice of pie, maybe an iced tea,” Burek said.

According to Burek, the food provider is expected to open in the summer of 2025.

“We should be opening in July for the restaurant, and the exciting part about that is in July is when our new parking structure should open also so July is going to be an exciting month,” he said.

Aside from vending machines, the selected vendor will be the sole provider of food at the airport.
