OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (KAUZ) – Donating food doesn’t get much easier than just leaving it on the ground. On Saturday, May 10, Oklahomans will have the opportunity to do just that with the Stamp Out Hunger food drive.
A partnership between USPS and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, the drive allows Oklahomans to put non-perishable foods in pre-sent bags – or any plastic bag – and leave it by their mailbox before their carrier stops by on Saturday.
In Comanche County, several organizations will receive the donations from the drive. Those include: Armed Services YMCA of Oklahoma, First Christian Church of Lawton, Fletcher Food Pantry, Impact Center, Indiahoma Community Food Bank, Jaime’s Cupboard, Lawton Food Bank Food & Resource Center, Marie Detty Youth and Family and New Life Assembly of God Food Pantry.
“There’s something powerful about coming together right at your own mailbox to fight hunger,” Stacy Dykstra, CEO of the Regional Food Bank, said. “Your donations during Stamp Out Hunger will stay in your community to help provide meals to your neighbors living with hunger. We are so grateful to our friends at the NALC and the United States Post Office for making this drive possible.”
Recommended items include:
- Peanut butter
- Canned tuna
- Canned chicken
- Canned fruits
- Pasta
- Canned sauce
- Canned soups and stews
- Healthy variations, such as whole grain or low-sodium
