Police investigate shooting ‘involving’ security guard at SW Portland preschool; No kids hurt

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Police are investigating a shooting “involving” a security guard at a preschool in southwest Portland on Thursday. All children are safe, the Portland Police Bureau said.

Shortly before noon, officers responded to the report of a shooting near a preschool in the 6600 block of Southwest Capitol Highway.

Police said they found a man who had been injured in a parking lot. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

POLICE GIVE UPDATE ON SHOOTING:

An armed security guard employed by the preschool stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, but police said they believe the shooting took place at a parking lot near the school and not on the school grounds.

Police are not searching for any suspects and there is no known ongoing danger to the community, PPB said. Parents and guardians are being contacted.

During the investigation, Southwest Vermont Street is closed between Southwest Capitol Highway and Southwest 24th Avenue.
