BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) – A beloved local tradition is rolling back into the City of Murals, continuing the mission of bringing community members together through the love of biking.
Build-a-Bike returns to Belvidere for the ninth year on Wednesday, May 14, at Hamblock Ford.
The event calls on the community to donate bikes to local kids in need, with more than 100 bikes donated this year. Those donations were provided by volunteers, sponsors and community leaders.
Joe Hamblock, the Build-a-Bike program organizer, says the event is about giving kids an emotional, social and physical boost.
“Some have never ridden a bike before, and it’s amazing to see all the different reactions,” Hamblock said. “That’s the best part about Build-a-Bike”.
