I stopped by the brand new Doughboy’s Grill in the former D’Lish Express/ OB Kabob location on Bacon Street that is brought to you by the same team behind BBQ House OB so you know there’s already years and years of successful business experience from the get go. It will be great to watch this new creation grow.
This new location already has a wonderful story behind it. Davin Atallah aka “doughboy” has a lot of history in OB. He started with his dad aka ”pops” when they first opened the BBQ House back in 1991 when it was next to the old Strand Theatre and he’s been doing bbq for the last 34+ years side by side with his brother Melvin and Pops.
Davin’s father built the BBQ House on customer relations and went out of his way to try and please every customer that walked through the front door and he plans on doing the same with his family and staff at the new location.

Davin’s right hand man (his son) Brayden has started this journey with him just like Davin did with his father 34 years ago. So when this new opportunity presented itself at the old “OB Kabob” location, Devin took it. He wants to create a fun cool concept with Doughboy’s Grill where it’s based on simplicity and quality where they grind their our own beef and freshly slice their ribeyes so you can taste the difference. They’ll be focusing on cheese steak sandwiches, wings and pizza.
Davin’s never done pizza but since the previous tenements left the pizza oven, he figured to use it and expand his experience with pizza. He mentioned it’s been fun with the pizza so far but has space to learn so he welcomes the criticism, advice, suggestions, feedback, etc.
Now for the food experience that fed my belly, my first attempt, I tried their Pastrami Cheesesteak and upgraded it D’Boys Way which then comes loaded with caramelized onions, Dijon mustard, pickles, caked in melted mozzarella, and provolone. From the first bite I was impressed with the pastrami’s smoky, peppery, and super tender combination that had been cooked just right. The sandwich itself is massive and was jam packed with those bold, delicious juicy flavors in every bite. Then all that cheese held the contents together giving it just the right amount of controlled messiness.

I also tried the waffle fries, which they bread in-house. Perfectly crisp, fresh, and a great shape for dipping into ranch or ketchup. The portions on both sandwich and fries were generous. I ate until I was full and still had half a meal to take home. But warning, the flavors will linger and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. When I got home, I took one more bite before putting it in the fridge… then five minutes later, I was back for one more bite. Within twenty minutes, I’d returned a few more times, and before I knew it, I’d finished the whole thing. It was just too good to resist.
Their location looks great and full of energy though it’s only the start and a work in progress. Davin (aka Doughboy), who’s one of the hardest working peoples in OB, hasn’t had a day off in over three months while putting things together but talking with him, he still comes across super relaxed and welcoming. He’s looking for community feedback with any ideas to give his new location just the right added touch.
