SapSap, a Laotian barbecue spot, is opening a permanent food truck at Zócalo Food Truck Park, 636 N. Sixth St., in Walker’s Point.
For the last decade, SapSap has sold Laotian food throughout southeastern Wisconsin through pop-ups and a two-year stint as a restaurant in Mount Pleasant from 2021 to 2023.
Owner Alex Hanesakda immigrated to the U.S. from a refugee camp in Thailand when he was a toddler during the Vietnam war.
He told the Journal Sentinel in 2024 that when his family moved to Burlington, his mother’s egg rolls helped connect them to their neighbors.
The new spot at Zócalo will open May 22. The restaurant is celebrating the opening by giving away free five meals through a social media contest on their Facebook page.
SapSap did not return a request for comment about the opening.
