33rd Annual Stamp Out Hunger Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Collection Saturday Morning at a Mailbox Near You

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Coming up Saturday at your mailbox, for the 33rd annual year, Stamp Out Hunger to benefit the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. This Saturday morning, your U.S. Postal Service letter carrier gets in on feeding the community by picking up donations which the food bank will receive. BRAFB Drive Coordinator Livia Marrs calls the letter carriers “the champions who make it happen… and we really appreciate all the work they do to raise awareness, to raise funds, the actual lifting on the day of”.
It’s really labor intensive on their part.

The food bank encourages community members to participate by placing non-perishable food donations (no glass, please), at their mailboxes for pickup by their letter carriers no later than 8am Saturday. Volunteers stationed at Post Offices throughout the region will help sort and distribute food to the Food Bank’s branches in Charlottesville, Lynchburg, Verona, and Winchester or its partners.

Marrs says last year’s drive helped surpass 2.5 million pounds of food collected over the campaign’s lifetime (since 1994), to help support families and individuals in bringing home food to their families. This year, the Food Bank hopes to continue that impact, ensuring well-stocked shelves as summer approaches—a time when many children lose access to school meals.
