When you think of Italian in New England, you probably think of Boston’s North End. The neighborhood is home to over one hundred restaurants, from long-standing establishments like Cantina Italia to viral newbies like The Red Fox, which opened last year. It’s often regarded as the best area around for Italian food.

However, beloved former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman disagrees. In an April 22 episode of his podcast “Games with Names“, joined by fellow former Patriot Danny Amendola, Edelman shared a provocative thought.

“Might have a hot take here,” Edelman said. “But I think Federal Hill has better Italian than the North End.”

Amendola and Edelman were discussing some of the spots in the North End that they used to frequent, like Strega and Monica’s Trattoria.

Before he shared his “hot take,” Edelman even said, “You can never go wrong with any of the Italian in the North End.”

When asked about the dining options in Providence, Amendola also had praise to share.

“The food in Providence is amazing,” Amendola said. “There’s a lot of young entrepreneurial chefs out there trying to make a good product, and they haven’t really gotten off the ground yet, so you can catch a lot of great stuff.”

We want to hear your opinion. Is Edelman right — does Providence’s Federal Hill have better Italian food than Boston’s North End? From Camille’s to Cassarino’s, there’s definitely some strong contenders. Share with us in the form below or e-mail us at [email protected].
